Vogue Fashion Foundation Diploma

The Vogue Fashion Foundation Diploma is an intensive one-year programme that is suitable for students from a wide range of backgrounds, including school leavers, graduates of other disciplines hoping to work in fashion, or those seeking a new career path. The primary aim is to enhance students’ creative and communication skills within the context of the wider fashion industry, as well as facilitating the development of a strong portfolio with a clear professional direction.

Term 1:

Terms one and two of the Foundation Diploma are taught primarily alongside the BA. The first term facilitates the development of essential professional and academic skills (such as research, analysis, and project management) that will be utilised throughout the course.  Students examine the history of fashion and explore how trends develop, developing a strong grounding in fashion theory that will underpin future projects.  They also begin to develop practical visual communication skills and are introduced to the creative suite software that is utilised throughout the course.

Term 2:

In the second term students will concentrate on two main areas of study: fashion marketing and fashion media.  The focus will be on how fashion businesses and magazines operate and the sophisticated methods used to promote and sell fashion. Students will also analyse recent developments in digital media and assess how these impact on the fashion and magazine industries.  Another aim in the second term is to increase understanding of the varied roles within fashion, with all students encouraged and supported to examine their career aspirations and graduate with an appropriate CV and portfolio.

Term 3:

In the final term students have the opportunity to choose between two approaches to their final project, either an individual fashion project that allows them to concentrate fully on a specialism of their choice, or the completion of an industry project set in collaboration with an established fashion company.  Those selecting the first option develop a project proposal, in consultation with tutors, based on their main area/s of interest.  The second option allows students to gain experience of working on a live industry-set brief with an illustrious brand – previous project partners include Louis Vuitton, Jaeger, Fenwick and various Condé Nast titles, including Vogue and GQ.

All final term projects include the core elements of market research and analysis and fashion brand communication. Past students have used the final project to concentrate on a varied range of topics, including: e-commerce, visual merchandising and display, PR and events, and styling.
